Linux Software Search

How To Use TuxSoftware.com

TuxSoftware.com's main goal is to provide a place where you can find, research, and install the software you need as quickly and as easily as possible. All software is categorized according to its function in the drop down menu on the left side of the page. You may also use the search function located directly above the menu to quickly find a software application by name or description.

The first thing you should do is to make sure that your Linux is an Ubuntu, Debian Testing, or derived system (complete list). If so then you are in the clear. If not then consider using Debian, Ubuntu, or a derivative, otherwise you can still use this site primarily for software research.

.
Method One is the recommended for all users.

Using the Linux Software Installer
The first method works with most web browsers running on Ubuntu, Debian, or derived distributions. It also provides more information about the software you are attempting to install than the second method does. First you should follow the L.S.I. Installation instructions. Now  whenever you want to install an application from the TuxSoftware site, depending on your web browser you can then either left or right-click the 'Install using LSI' icon and select to open the file with Linux Software Installer (lsinstall).  The dialogs will take care of the rest, its that easy.

Using the AptUrl Extension

The second method requires you to be using the apturl protocol with a compatible browser. AptUrl is available by default on Ubuntu 7.10 and higher. If you are using an Ubuntu based system and apturl is not installed open your synaptic package manager and install it if you prefer. Debian users follow these simple instructions to get AptUrl working in three really easy steps. Afterwards simply by clicking on the 'Install Now with AptUrl' icon/link located underneath the software descriptions you can directly install that software from your browser.
